Hot Honey Shrimp Tacos

Looking for a healthy weeknight dinner that actually delivers on flavor? These hot honey shrimp tacos are buttery, spicy, a little sweet, and finished with an optional homemade Bang Bang sauce that takes them over the top. Packed with clean ingredients like wild-caught shrimp, creamy avocado, crisp cabbage, and fresh cilantro—all wrapped in grain-free tortillas.

Ingredients

For the Tacos:
Fresh:

1 pound wild-caught shrimp, peeled and deveined

2 scallions, thinly sliced

1 avocado, sliced

1½ cups shredded red cabbage

¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Juice of ½ lime (plus wedges for serving)

6 grain-free or organic corn tortillas

Staple:

½ teaspoon sea salt (to taste; using Redmond Real Salt)

2 tablespoons grass-fed butter or ghee, slightly melted

2 tablespoons raw honey

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

For the Bang Bang Sauce:
Fresh:

1 garlic clove, grated

Staple:

½ cup avocado oil mayo

1½ tablespoons clean ketchup (no additives)

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

½ tablespoon coconut aminos

1–2 teaspoons hot sauce or sriracha (to taste)

Pinch of sea salt

For Cilantro Lime Rice:
Fresh:

1 ¾ cups beef or chicken bone broth

Juice and zest of 1/2 lime

½ cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped

Staple:

1 tablespoon grass-fed butter or ghee

1 cup jasmine or basmati rice, rinsed well

½ teaspoon sea salt

Cook the Cilantro Lime Rice (20 minutes):

1.    In a small saucepan, combine rinsed rice, broth, salt, and butter.

2.    Bring to a boil, reduce to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.

3.    Remove from heat and let sit covered for 5 minutes.

4.    Fluff rice with a fork, stir in lime juice, zest, and cilantro. Adjust salt or lime to taste.

Prep the Shrimp & Hot Honey Butter (20–25 minutes total):

5.    Pat shrimp dry and toss with sea salt.

6.    Preheat broiler on high and line a baking sheet with unbleached parchment paper.

Make Hot Honey Butter (5 minutes):

7.    Melt butter and honey together in a small bowl (microwave 30–60 seconds).

8.    Stir in chili powder and cayenne, let cools lightly.

Broil the Shrimp (5 minutes):

9.    Toss shrimp with cooled hot honey butter until evenly coated.

10.  Spread shrimp on the lined baking sheet in a single layer.

11.  Broil for 4–5 minutes until opaque, pink, and lightly charred.

Make the Bang Bang Sauce (5 minutes):

12.  Whisk together grated garlic, mayo, ketchup, rice vinegar, coconut aminos, hot sauce, and salt until smooth.

13.  Adjust heat and sweetness to taste. Thin with a splash of water if needed.

Assemble the Tacos (5 minutes):

14.  Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or oven until pliable if desired.

15.  Fill tortillas with red cabbage, hot honey shrimp, avocado, scallions, and cilantro.

16.  Drizzle with Bang Bang sauce, squeeze lime juice on top, and serve with a side of cilantro lime rice.
